Sa kabila ng banta ng COVID-19 sa bansa, iniulat ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) na mahigit isang milyong job seekers ang natanggap sa trabaho ngayong taon sa pamamagitan ng Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Ayon sa datos mula sa PESO, 1,005,984 na aplikante ang natanggap sa trabaho mula Enero hanggang Setyembre ngayong taon. Subalit, nilinaw ni DOLE Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay na mababa ang bilang na ito kumpara sa mga nagdaang taon.

“That one million is smaller compared to previous years where the batting average is two million each year being provided assistance through PESO, but one million is a good number,” paglilinaw ni Asec. Tutay.

Isa sa nakikitang dahilan ng unti-unting pagtaas ng bilang ng mga aplikanteng natatanggap sa trabaho ay ang pagluwag ng quarantine restrictions sa ilang lugar.

Sa tala ng DOLE, umabot sa 2,099,613 qualified workers ang natanggap noong 2018 samantalang 2,151,034 naman sa taong 2019.

Subalit, mula Abril hanggang Setyembre nitong taon, nakapagtala lamang ng 220,009 job seekers ang DOLE at 410,621 naman sa buwan ng Hulyo hanggang Setyembre.

Ang PESO ay isang community-based, multi-employment service facility na itinatag alinsunod sa Republic Act No. 8579 at naglalayong matulungan ang publiko na makahanap ng akmang trabaho na naaayon sa kanilang kapasidad. 

Nagsisilbi rin itong referral at information center para sa mga serbisyo at programa ng DOLE.
