Sumumpa na sa harap ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kahapon ang dating Mandaluyong City Mayor na si Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr. bilang bagong chairman ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Nagsilbi si Abalos bilang mayor ng lungsod ng Mandaluyong sa loob ng 15 taon mula 1998 hanggang 2004 at 2007 hanggang 2016. Nagsilbi din siya bilang representative ng lungsod mula 2004 hanggang 2007

Matatandaang isa si Abalos sa mga nagbigay-daan upang paunlarin ang lungsod sa pamamagitan ng iba’t ibang programa at proyekto kung kaya’t sa kinalaunan ay itinuring ang Mandaluyong bilang “New Tiger City” ng bansa noong 2002.

Sa kasagsagan ng termino niya bilang mayor noong 2014 ay pinatupad ni Abalos ang ban sa mga “riding-on-tandem” upang mabawasan ang krimen sa lungsod.

Ayon kay Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, ang mga karanasan at kaalaman ni Abalos sa serbisyong publiko ay makakatulong sa bagong papel ng huli sa ahensiya.

“With the exemplary career of Chairman Abalos in public service, he brings with him the benefit of years of experience and wisdom to the bureaucracy,” saad niya.

Through this platform, Balita Central Digital aims to reach further the online community to deliver more accurate information and communication services in order to educate the citizenry regarding national issues which would enlighten them to be engaged and be empowered in contributing to building a better nation.
