Nagdagdag pa ang AFP ng Navy ships sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) para paigtingin ang maritime patrol sa pinag-aagawang teritoryo, sa kabila ng paniniguro ng People’s Liberation Army ng China na sumisilong lang diumano mula sa masamang panahon ang “non-militia” Chinese ships na namataan sa Julian Felipe Reef.

“By the increased naval presence in the area, we seek to reassure our people of the AFP’s strong and unwavering commitment to protect and defend them from harassment and ensure that they can enjoy their rights over the country’s rich fishing ground which is the source of their livelihood,” pahayag ni Marine Major General Edgard Arevalo, AFP Spokesperson.

Sinabi rin ng Spokesperson na ipinarating na ng AFP sa China noong Marso 24 ang hiling ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas na paalisin ang mga barkong namataan sa naturang Reef na nasa 183 ang bilang ayon sa pinakahuling aerial patrol.

Nangingisda lang diumano ang mga barko na naaberya dahil sa masamang panahon, ayon naman sa China.

Magsisilbi namang “eyes and ears” ang Western Command ng militar sa WPS.
