Nananatiling malaking hamon sa The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ang cold chain management na gagamitin para sa distribusyon ng COVID-19 vaccines.

Ayon kay FDA Director General Eric Domingo, importante umano ang cold chain management upang maayos na maimbak ang COVID-19 vaccines. Malaking problema rin umano ang kakaharapin ng vaccination program ng bansa kung hindi maitatabi ang mga nabiling bakuna sa nasabing cold storage facilities.

“Kapag lumampas siya sa temperatura na dapat stored siya, nawawalan na siya ng epekto. Maaaring iturok siya sa ‘yo pero wala na siyang proteksiyon na ibibigay, kaya dapat very well maintained ‘yong cold chain,” paliwanag ni FDA DG Domingo.

Maaari rin umanong magkaroon ng negatibong epekto ang bakunang ituturok sa isang tao kung hindi ito naitabi ng maayos.

“Kung talagang masyadong malaki ang variation ng temperature, baka magkaroon pa ng adverse effects,” paalala ni Domingo.

Sa kabila nito, siniguro ng Department of Health (DOH) sa publiko na mayroong sapat na cold storage facilities ang bansa para sa binili nitong mga bakuna.

Ayon kay DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, handa ang bansa dito at bukod sa pribadong sektor, mayroon din umanong cold storage facilities ang Research Institute for Tropical Medicine at mga regional offices nito.

Nakatakdang magsimula ang mass inoculation program ng bansa sa susunod na buwan.
