Ibinahagi ni COVID-19 Testing Czar Vince Dizon na pinahintulutan na ng Department of Health ang paggamit ng pooled tests upang matukoy ang COVID-19 sa mga grupo ng indibidwal na may mababang tsansa ng pagkahawa sa naturang impeksyon.

Ayon kay Dizon, ang swab samples ng hanggang limang katao ay maaaring pagsamahin at suriin gamit ang isang reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction o RT-PCR test kit lamang — bagay na maaaring makapagpababa sa halagang ginugugol para sa swab tests.

Isang magandang halimbawa aniya kung saan maaaring maisagawa ang nasabing pagsusuri ay sa pagitan ng overseas Filipino workers na umuuwi sa bansa.

Napili ang Makati City bilang lokal na pamahalaan kung saan isinagawa ang kauna-unahang pooled tests, na nagsimula noong Setyembre ng nakaraang taon. Isinagawa ang nasabing pagsusuri sa pagitan ng public utility vehicle drivers at market vendors ng lungsod.

Sa ilalim ng pooled testing, kapag ang isang batch ng mga indibidwal ay nagnegatibo sa pagsusuri, ibig sabihin ay negatibo ang lahat ng mga taong sumailalim sa testing. Kapag nagpositibo naman ang naturang pool, nangangahulugan itong may isa o higit pa sa grupo na nagpositibo sa virus at kinakailangang isa-isang suriin silang muli.

Tiwala si Dizon, na siya ring deputy chief implementer ng COVID-19 policies ng pamahalaan, na maaabot ng bansa ang 10 milyong COVID-19 tests na target nito sa darating na katapusan ng Marso.

Bukod pa sa pooled testing, inaasahan din ng testing czar na maaaprubahan ang paggamit ng mas mura at mas madaling isagawang saliva-based COVID-19 tests.
