GDP ng bansa inaasahang tataas sa huling tatlong buwan ng 2020—NEDA

Inaasahang lalago ang Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ng bansa sa huling tatlong buwan ng taon kasabay ng patuloy na pagbubukas ng ekonomiya sa iba’t ibang sektor ngunit nanatili pa ring mahina ang consumer spending dahil sa mas mababang paggasta sa mga non-essential na produkto.

Sa isang virtual briefing kahapon, pinaliwanag ni National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon na nanatiling mababa ang consumer spending kung ikukumpara noong nakaraang taon dahil sa kawalan ng trabaho, mababang paggasta sa mga non-essential na produkto, at iba pa.

Nasa -11.5 percent ang GDP ng bansa sa third quarter ng taon mula sa -16.9 percent noong second quarter. Inaasahan ng mga ekonomista ang full-year contraction ng GDP na bansa na maglalaro sa 5.5 percent.

Ayon sa kaniya, ang pang-apat na quarter ng taong 2020 ay mananatili pa ring hamon dahil kailangan pa ring panatilihin ang social distancing. Dagdag pa niya, inaasahang tataas ang paggastos sa pagkain sa labas dahil maaari nang tumanggap ang mga restawran ngayon ng mas maraming costumer.

Ayon kay Edillon, nagsisimula nang maghilom at bumangon ang ekonomiya ng bansa sa kabila ng pagsadsad nito noong mga nakaraang buwan dahil sa pandemya.

“We’ve seen the worst and we’re starting to recover. The most effective strategy to do this is to re-open the economy,” saad niya.
