Suportado ng Palasyo ang pagkakaroon ng bansa ng locally-made COVID-19 vaccine upang mabawasan umano ang pag-angkat ng bakuna mula sa ibang bansa.

Ayon kay Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, may plano na umano ang bansa na gumawa ng sarili nitong bakuna matapos irekomenda ni Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña na itatag ang kauna-unahang Institute of Vaccinology ng bansa.

“Tama po kayo. Dumating na ‘yung punto na ang Pilipinas ay nag-iisip na rin magkaroon ng kakayahan na mag-develop ng sariling bakuna,” pahayag ni Sec. Roque.

Subalit nilinaw ni Sec. Roque na patuloy pa rin ang partisipasyon ng bansa sa paggawa ng lunas sa COVID-19 tulad ng partisipasyon sa clinical trials ng lagundi, tawa-tawa, at virgin coconut oil bilang supplementary treatment sa naturang virus.

Aktibo rin umano ang partisipasyon ng bansa sa convalescent plasma trial upang masuri kung epektibo nga ba ito sa mga nagpositibo sa COVID-19.

Noong nakaraang taon, inanunsyo ng DOST na parte ng kanilang research and development ang paggamit ng medicinal plants tulad ng lagundi at tawa-tawa sa pagpuksa ng pandemya.
