Ipinakalat ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang nasa 226 na PNP Special Action Force (SAF) commandos sa Eastern Visayas bilang suporta sa kampanya ng pamahalaan na wakasan ang local communist armed conflict sa rehiyon at paigtingin ang internal security at anti-criminality operations ng pulisya.
Dadagdag ang 226 commandos sa anti-insurgency at counter-terrorism operations ng PRO-8. Itatalaga ang commandos sa forward operating bases ng PNP-SAF sa iba’t ibang probinsya sa Eastern Visayas kung saan patuloy ang operasyon laban sa NPA.
Inaasahang magbibigay ng tactical support sa lokal na pulisya ang hakbang na ito ng PNP.
Tinapos ng 226 police commandos ang anim na buwan na SAF Commando Course nito lamang Pebrero 5 sa Calbayog City, ang final rite of passage para mapabilang sa elite circle ng SAF.
