LUNGSOD NG QUEZON–Nakakasa na ang manhunt sa dalawa sa top New People’s Army (NPA) Leaders at Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) Committee Members na napaulat nang tumangging sumuko matapos ang hindi natuloy na peace negotiations kung saan sila naging consultants, bilang paglabag sa probisyon ng pansamantalang kalayaang iginawad sa kanila ng gobyerno.
Hinatulan din ng “guilty” ng Regional Trial Court (RTC) Br. 216 ng Quezon City (QC) sa kidnapping at illegal detention charges ang kasalukuyang mga takas na sina Benito at Wilma Tiamzon.
Parusang reclusion perpetua na may accessory penalties ang naging hatol ni Judge Alfonso C. Ruiz II sa mag-asawa na may PhP75,000 moral damages para sa kidnap victim nilang si LT Abraham Casis.
Dawit din ang mag-asawa sa multiple murder charges sa Inopacan Massacre kung saan co-accused nila si Jose Maria Sison. Humaharap din ang mga ito sa kasong illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Sinabi ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na maituturing na tagumpay ang naging hatol ng QC RTC para sa mga murder, arson, extortion, ambush, at bombing victims ng NPA.
“It is time for the rest of the CPP-NPA to abandon the armed struggle and take part in bringing genuine peace and development to the country,” pahayag ni MGEN Edgard Arevalo, AFP Spokesperson.
