P362M LAAN NG PAMAHALAAN PARA SA COVID-19 GENOME SEQUENCING

Ibinahagi ni Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles nitong Huwebes, Pebrero 4, 2021, na naglaan ng P362 milyon ang gabinete ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte para pondohan ang genome sequencing sa bansa sa loob ng isang taon. 

Makatutulong ang genome sequencing sa pagtukoy sa bagong Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) variants. 

“Genome sequencing will enable us to understand the evolution of the virus across geographical and time scales, as well as the impact of specific mutations on viral properties, including infectiousness and virulence,” paliwanag ni Cab Sec Karlo Nograles.

Ayon pa sa Kalihim, ang mga impormasyong makakalap mula sa naturang proseso ay makatutulong upang makabuo ang bansa ng mas epektibong vaccination program, makapagsagawa ng iba pang mga hakbang na may kinalaman sa pagpapabuti ng kalusugan ng mga mamamayan, at makapaghanda sa posibleng pag-usbong ng iba pang mga pandemya sa hinaharap.

Ani Department of Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, ang nabanggit na budget ay ilalaan upang makakuha ng isang taong suplay ng reagents o mga kemikal na gagamitin sa pagsusuri, testing kits, at iba pang mga logistical requirements.

Sakop ng naturang pondo ang genome sequencing na gagawin sa Philippine Genome Center, University of the Philippines-National Institutes of Health, at Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.

Matatandaang noong nakaraan buwan ay may mga natukoy na bagong kaso ng COVID-19 variant sa bansa. Ang nasabing variant ay nagmula sa bansang United Kingdom.
