Dinepensahan ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque ang desisyon ng gobyerno na kumuha ng 25 milyong doses ng bakuna mula sa Sinovac sa kabila ng kakulangan nitong mapatunayang ligtas at epektibo ang bakunang gawa nito.

Ang dahilan kung bakit kumukuha tayo ng Sinovac kasi sila lamang ang magbibigay ng supply sa lalong mabilis na panahon Hindi naman po natin bibilhin ‘yan kung hindi sasabihin ng FDA na ito’y ligtas at ito po ay epektibo,” pahayag ni Sec. Roque.

Iniulat din ni Sec. Roque na hindi agad umano makakakuha ang bansa ng bakunang gawa ng Pfizer-BioNtech na nakatakdang ipamahagi sa unang bahagi ng 2021 sa bansang Estados Unidos at United Kingdom.

“Kaya natin binibili ang Sinovac kasi wala naman tayong makuha agad na Pfizer, AstraZeneca, o Moderna,” paliwanag ni Sec. Roque,

Aniya, maaaring sa ikalawa o ikatlong bahagi pa ng 2021 makakuha ng suplay ng bakuna ang bansa mula sa naturang pharmaceutical company at hindi umano ito katanggap-tanggap kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Samantala, ibinahagi ni Food and Drug Administration Director General Eric Domingo na nagpakita ang Sinovac ng interes sa pagkuha ng emergency use approval sa bansa.

Sa kasalukuyan, hindi pa inilalabas ng Sinovac ang resulta ng Phase 3 clinical trial subalit ayon kay Philippine Ambassador to China Chito Sta, Romana, naibigay na ang bakunang ito sa halos isang milyong katao kabilang na ang military ng bansang Tsina.

Nanindigan naman si Domingo na hindi nila aaprubahan ang emergency use ng bakunang gawa sa bansang Tsina kung wala itong sapat na safety at efficacy data.

Kaugnay naman ng mga kumakalat na balitang mas mahal ang presyo ng Sinovac kumpara sa ibang bakuna, sinagot ni Sec. Roque at ng Budget Department’s Procurement Service na prayoridad ng pamahalaan ang kaligtasan at publiko at wala umanong dapat alalahanin sa budget.

“The instruction of the President is very precise, we get the vaccines for the protection of the Filipino people. Whatever is the safest and the most effective and available, that we will get. The cost and the price will be taken care of by the DOF (Department of Finance)…it is secondary,” paglilinaw ni Budget Undersecretary Lloyd Lao.
