Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque kahapon, Mayo 3, na nababahala ang Palasyo sa mabagal na implementasyon ng Php1.3 bilyong free Wi-Fi project ng pamahalaan. 

Ayon sa kanya, 10,000 sites pa lamang mula sa kabuuang 120,000 sites ang nakakatanggap ng libreng access sa internet mula nang pirmahan ang RA 10929 o ‘Free Internet Access in Public Places Act’ noong Agosto 2017.

“Mula noon hanggang ngayon eh talagang medyo nakakabahala po iyong bagal nang pag-implement nitong libreng Wi-Fi ‘no,,” saad ni Roque sa press briefing kahapon.

Aniya, hindi nasisiyahan ang pamahalaan sa performance ng multinational contractor na Speedcast na siyang pinili ng National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) upang mag-angkat ng mga kagamitan para sa proyekto. 

“Bilang isang pangunahing awtor nu’ng batas, syempre po hindi tayo happy. Kinakailangan ang pangako natin libreng Wi-Fi sa lahat, dapat magkaroon pa rin iyan ng katuparan sa administrasyon ni Presidente Duterte and we have one year to go,” dagdag niya.

Sumang-ayon din si Roque sa desisyon ng Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) na tanggalin ang Speedcast sa proyekto. 

“I think ang posisyon po ay gumawa na ng hakbang ang DICT na ibalik na nga po iyong mga sobrang bayad na naibigay diyan sa foreign contractor na iyan, bayaran sila sa mga na-installed nilang sites pero ngayon po mas mabilis pa ang DICT mag-install ng mga libreng Wi-Fi sites,” saad niya.
