PANAWAGAN NI SEC. BELLO, ITAAS ANG PASSENGER CAPACITY PARA SA MGA MANGGAGAWA

Nanawagan si Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III sa Department of Transportation (DOTr) na itaas na ang passenger capacity ng pampublikong sasakyan sa 70 porsyento matapos ibalik sa full capacity ang operasyon ng ilang establisyimento sa ilalim ng general community quarantine.

Ayon kay Sec. Bello, malaking suliranin sa mga ordinaryong manggagawa ang limitadong kapasidad ng mga pampublikong sasakyan.

“Employees would like to report to work but there are no rides available. We are also requesting to allow more people inside public transportation, an increase in ridership of (up to) 70 percent”, pahayag ni Sec. Bello.

Ayon naman sa Palasyo, inaasahang anumang araw ay maaari nang itataas ang passenger capacity hanggang 70 porsyento upang makatulong sa pag-ahon ng ekonomiya sa gitna ng pandemya.

“Well pinag-iisipan po talaga iyan ng IATF dahil alam natin na ang tanging paraan para maiahon sa kahirapan ay ang pagbubukas ng ekonomiya na pupuwede naman pong mangyari sa pamamagitan ng pag-iingat ng buhay para makapag hanap-buhay”, saad ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

Maliit umano ang posibilidad ng pagkahawa ng mga pasahero kung magsusuot ang mga ito ng face mask at face shield at mahigpit na ipapatupad ang “no eating” at “no drinking policy”. Mas makabubuti rin umano na well ventilated ang sasakyan at regular na isasagawa ang disinfection upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng mga sasakay dito.

Noong nakaraang buwan, inirekomenda ng DOTr na itaas ang passenger capacity ng mga pampublikong sasakyan at gawing 0.75 metro ang nakagawiang 1 meter social distancing. Subalit, umani ito ng batikos mula sa iba’t ibang sektor dahil sa takot na mahawa ng virus.

Dahil dito, ibinalik sa isang metro ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang physical distancing sa mga pampublikong sasakyan.

Ibinahagi naman ni DOTr Assistant Secretary Goddes Hope Libiran na hihintayin pa muna nila ang ulat mula sa Department of Health bago magsagawa ng anumang rekomendasyon para itaas ang bilang ng passenger capacity.

“We will wait until it is determined that the number of active cases as reported by the DOH allows it”, paglilinaw ni Asec. Libiran.
