Iniulat ni Vaccine Czar Sec. Carlito Galvez, Jr. na mayroong 17 posibleng mapagkukunan ang bansa ng bakuna kontra COVID-19 at siyam sa mga ito ay kasalukuyang nasa ikatlong bahagi na ng clinical trials.

Ayon kay Galvez, tatlo mula sa siyam na bakuna na nasa Phase 3 trial ay magsasagawa ng trial sa bansa sa darating na Disyembre o Enero. Hindi muna pinangalanan ni Sec. Galvez ang tatlong pharmaceutical companies na nagbabalak magsagawa ng nasabing trial sa bansa.

Kaugnay nito, ibinalita rin ni Sec. Galvez na magbibigay ng tulong ang mga negosyante sa bansa upang makalikom ng sapat na bakuna. 

Nakatakdang magbigay si Enrique Razon ng 300,000 doses ng bakuna, samantalang ang BDO, Lucio Tan Group of Companies, San Miguel Corporation, at GO Negosyo ay kasalukuyang lumilikom ng halaga para sa isang milyong bakuna.

“Hopefully, baka tataas pa ‘yun ng 1 to 2 million doses. Ido-donate po nila ‘yung 80 to 50 percent of the vaccine, atsaka ‘yung iba gagamitin sa kanilang poor essential workers. At no cost po sa’tin,” pahayag ni Sec. Galvez.

Kamakailan, inihayag ni Sec. Galvez na maaaring magsagawa ang gobyerno ng advance procurement ng 24 milyong doses ng bakuna sa unang bahagi ng 2021. Posible pa umanong tumaas sa 30 hanggang 50 milyong doses ng bakuna ang mabili ng bansa sa susunod na taon.

Nakasaad sa proposed 2021 budget na P2.5 bilyon lamang ang nakalaan para sa pagbili ng COVID-19 vaccine. Ayon sa Department of Health, aabot sa humigit kumulang P12.9 bilyon ang kailangang ilaan upang libreng mabakunahan ang 20 porsyentong populasyon ng buong bansa.
