Ayon kay Chief Implementer of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 Carlito Galvez, Jr., kasalukuyang nakikipagnegosasyon ang bansa upang makakuha ng 10 milyong doses ng COVID-19 vaccines na magmumula sa kumpanyang Johnson & Johnson. 

Sinabi pa ni Galvez na mangangailangan lamang ng isang turok upang umepekto ang nasabing bakuna kung kaya’t hindi aniya magiging kumplikado ang logistics para sa distribusyon nito. 

“Washington may authorize the US-developed vaccine for emergency use in two weeks or three weeks from now and supply may arrive in the Philippines in the third quarter of this year. Sumulat po ako sa management na taasan pa ang quota natin to 10 million,” paglalahad pa ni Galvez, na tumatayo rin bilang vaccine czar ng bansa. 

Sa ngayon ay nasa mga huling bahagi na ng trials ang J&J vaccine. 

Layon ng pamahalaan na mabakunahan na ang 70 milyong Pilipino ngayong darating na buwan ng Pebrero. 

Pahayag pa ni Galvez, ang mga unang suplay ng bakuna ay inaasahang magmumula sa Pfizer mula sa America, sa kumpanyang AstraZeneca ng United Kingdom, at sa Chinese biopharmaceutical firm na Sinovac. 

Sa kasalukuyan, nasiguro na ng bansa ang suplay ng 30 milyong doses ng bakuna mula sa Serum Institute of India, 25 milyon mula sa Sinovac, 20 milyon galing sa Moderna, 17 milyon mula sa AstraZeneca, at 40 milyong doses naman ang makukuha sa Covax Facility. 

Samantala, ang bakuna mula sa Pfizer pa lamang ang siyang nabibigyan ng emergency use authority ng Food and Drug Administration ng bansa.
