Inanunsyo ni Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez, Jr. nitong Linggo, Abril 11, 2021, na umabot na sa higit isang milyong doses ng COVID-19 vaccines ang naiturok na sa mga mamamayan ng bansa na prayoridad na mabakunahan laban sa naturang virus.

Ayon pa kay Galvez, na siya ring Chief Implementer ng National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19, base sa pinakahuling datos na naitala noong Sabado, Abril 10, ay umabot na sa 1,137,534 doses ng COVID-19 vaccines ang naipamahagi na ng pamahalaan. Ito ay naabot ng bansa higit isang buwan matapos simulan ng pamahalaan ang programa nito na libreng pagbabakuna kontra COVID-19.

Ibinahagi ni Secretary Galvez ang balitang ito matapos matanggap ng bansa noong Abril 11 ang 500,000 doses ng bakuna na binili ng pamahalaan mula sa Chinese pharmaceutical firm na Sinovac Biotech. 

“With the arrival of the additional 500,000 Sinovac vaccines, this will surely help in our effort to vaccinate more Filipino people and put an end to this pandemic,” saad ng opisyal.

Sinabi rin ng Kalihim na layon ng gobyerno na makapagbakuna ng 500,000 hanggang isang milyong katao kada linggo ngayong Abril hanggang sa buwan ng Mayo. Ito ay upang maabot aniya ng bansa ang target nitong mabakunahan ang 50 hanggang 70 milyong indibidwal ngayong taon at matamo ng bansa ang tinatawag na “herd immunity”, kung saan malaking bahagi ng populasyon ng bansa ang magiging protektado na laban sa virus.

Dagdag pa ng pinuno ng NTF, maaaring mas dumami pa ang bilang ng mga Pilipinong mababakunahan pagsapit ng ikalawa o ikatlong quarter ng 2021, kung saan mas maraming suplay ng bakuna ang inaasahang darating sa bansa.

Nasa kabuuang 10.5 milyong doses ng COVID-19 vaccine ang nakatakdang dumating sa Pilipinas pagsapit ng Hunyo; 13.5 milyong doses naman sa Hulyo; at 20 milyong doses kada buwan mula Agosto hanggang Disyembre ng taong ito.
