Siniguro ng Palasyo nitong Marso 2 sa publiko na kayang harapin ng healthcare system ng bansa ang pagtaas ng kaso ng COVID-19 pati na ang COVID-19 variants galing UK at South Africa.

“Hindi po natin madi-deny na talagang habang nandiyan ang Covid, talagang mas maraming mahahawa. Ang importante, nasa posisyon tayo na bigyan ng medical attention at tulong iyong mga nangangailangan,” saad ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque sa isang press briefing. 

Hinikayat niya ang publiko na ipagpatuloy ang pagsunod sa mga health at safety protocol tulad ng pasusuot ng face mask at face shield, physical distancing, at iba pa. 

“Ngayong nandiyan na ang bakuna, bakit naman tayo hihindi lalo na at mayroon nang mga bagong variants at lalo na kung ikaw po ay isang medical frontliner,” dagdag pa niya. 

Nang tanungin kung magpapatupad ng mas istriktong community quarantine dahil sa paglitaw ng bagong variant, “Alam ninyo naman ang ating quarantine classification ang kinukonsidera iyong two-week attack rate, iyong average daily attack rate at pinakaimportante iyong healthcare utilization rate,” paliwanag ni Spox Roque. 

Unang na-detect ang UK variant sa bansa noong Enero 13, 2021 at naiulat ang unang local transmission sa CAR.
