Inatasan ng DILG ang PNP na magtalaga ng media security focal persons sa bawat probinsya at lungsod nationwide para magbantay sa 2022 elections.

Inilabas ang memorandum ng DILG kasunod ng pakiusap ni PTFoMS Executive Director Joel Sy Egco bilang paghahanda sa posibleng pagtaas ng insidente ng karahasan sa mga miyembro ng midya gawa ng eleksyon.

“The infamous massacre in Ampatuan, Maguindanao in November 2009 is a constant reminder that media workers are mostly vulnerable a few months before, during and a few months after every election,” pahayag ni DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya.

Tutulong ang PNP focal person sa pagtanggap ng impormasyon at pagresponde sa mga banta ng karahasan sa media workers. Trabaho rin nitong makipag-ugnayan sa special agents ng PTFoMS para sa mabilisang resolusyon sa mga kasong sangkot ang journalists.

Nasa 58 indibidwal ang namatay, kasama na ang 32 media workers, sa Ampatuan Massacre noong 2009 na nagbansag sa Pilipinas na isa sa “worst places for journalists” sa kaparehong taon.

Nagbaba ng guilty verdict ang QC court noong Disyembre 19, 2019 sa karamihan sa respondents sa kaso, kabilang na ang ilang miyembro ng Ampatuan clan na tinuring na masterminds sa nangyaring pagpatay.
