Ipinag-utos ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa mga lider ng lokal na pamahalaan na bumili at mamigay ng libreng face masks sa kanilang mga nasasakupan habang nag-aantay ang pamahalaan sa nalalapit na pagdating ng mga bakuna laban sa COVID-19. 

Sa kaniyang lingguhang public address, muling iginiit ng Pangulo ang kahalagahan ng face masks para maprotektahan ang mga Pilipino laban sa pagkahawa sa COVID-19. 

Ayon sa Department of Health, ang face mask ay nagbibigay ng 60 hanggang 70 porsyentong proteksyon laban sa virus, at kapag sinamahan pa ito ng face shield at physical distancing ay aabot sa 99 porsyento ang proteksyong maaaring makuha ng isang indibidwal kontra sa naturang virus. 

“I’m not trying to pontificate, but in the meantime, it is better to follow the government and wear a mask. It can save you a lot of trouble and expense,” mensahe ni Pangulong Duterte.

Sinabi ng Presidente na siya mismo ang maghahatid ng face masks at mga bakuna sa lugar na nasasakupan ng local chief executives na hindi susunod sa nasabing direktiba. 

“If you don’t want to do that, then I will bring the vaccine to your areas. I will go to the city hall, and I will give the… if you don’t want to buy, then I will deliver. You give it to the people. You don’t want to spend, then I will. I hope that does not happen. I hope we have an understanding here for this problem,” pahayag ng Pangulo sa mga opisyal ng local government units.
