PRRD: ‘MGA BATANG EDAD 10-14 NA TAONG GULANG NA NASA MGCQ AREAS, BAWAL PANG LUMABAS NG BAHAY’

Taliwas sa naunang desisyon ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), napagdesisyunan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte nitong Lunes, Enero 25, 2021, na hindi na muna papayagang makalabas ng kanilang tahanan ang mga batang edad 10 hanggang 14 na taong gulang sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng modified general community quarantine o MGCQ simula sa darating na Pebrero. 

Tinukoy ng Pangulo ang banta ng bagong variant ng COVID-19 bilang dahilan ng kaniyang desisyon. 

“Pasensya na po kayo, mine is just a precaution. Takot lang ako, kasi itong bagong strain strikes young children,” pahayag ng Pangulo sa kanyang lingguhang national address kasama ang iba pang miyembro ng kaniyang gabinete.

Mga batang nasa lima hanggang sampung taong gulang ang ilan lamang sa napag-alamang nahawaaan ng bagong variant ng naturang virus na natukoy sa Bontoc, Mountain Province. 

“There’s a strain discovered in Cordillera that is very similar dito sa strain sa United Kingdom. How it got there is beyond me. Balik ho kayo sa bahay muna,” ani Pangulong Duterte. 

Ang naunang desisyon ng IATF na payagan ang mga batang kabilang sa nasabing age group na makalabas ng bahay ay ginawa upang mabalanse ng pamahalaan ang pagbibigay proteksyon sa kalusugan ng mga mamamayan at pagpapahalaga sa ekonomiya ng bansa. 

“Once it is confirmed na talagang mga bata ay tinatamaan, well that order will subsist until such time that everybody will be safe by the bakuna,” dagdag pa ng pinuno ng bansa.

Samantala, sinabi rin ni Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III na muling magpupulong ang IATF upang talakayin ang bagong community quarantine classifications para sa susunod na buwan. 

Sa isang virtual briefing noong Martes, Enero 26, ipinagtanggol naman ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque ang naging desisyon ng Pangulo. 

“Bagama’t sinabi nga ni Presidente, naintindihan ko naman kung bakit kinakailangan ganiyang magdesisyon kaya lang siyempre, no, tatay at lolo po ang ating Presidente. Ang kanyang pangunahing concern ay pangalagaan ang kalusugan ng ating mga kabataan,” paliwanag ng tagapagsalita ng Pangulo.
