Bumuo ang PNP ng special investigation task group (SITG) upang imbestigahan ang pagkamatay ni Calbayog City Mayor Ronald Aquino nitong Marso 8.

Pangungunahan ang SITG “Aquino” ng PR08 Deputy Regional Director for Operations, kasama ang RCIDU8, RIU8, RID-PRO8, RCLO, Samar PPO, at Calbayog City PS.

Ayon sa inisyal na ulat, nauna diumanong magpaputok ang close-in security ng nasawing alkalde sa unmarked vehicle ng PNP-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group-Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (IMEG-PDEU) na nasa area para magsagawa ng red teaming inspection.

Nasa parehong road lane ang dalawang sasakyan nang mangyari ang palitan ng putok na ikinamatay ni Mayor Aquino at ng kanyang police escort at driver.

Sugatan naman ang isang sibilyang empleyado ng alkalde na kasama nito sa sasakyan nang mangyari ang insidente.

Patay rin ang dalawang police personnel at isang sugatan sa panig naman ng IMEG-PDEU.

Mariin namang itinanggi ng IMEG-PDEU na subject ng anumang operasyon ng grupo ang naturang alkalde.

Sa katunayan, hindi diumano alam ng mga sangkot na PNP personnel kung sinu-sino ang nasa loob ng sasakyan na nagpaputok sa kanila.
