Sinang-ayunan ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) noong Sabado ang pagtutol ng Metro Manila Council (MMC) sa pagbubukas ng mga sinehan sa National Capital Region lalo na dahil umano’y wala pang aprubadong seating capacity para sa ganitong establisyimento.
Gayunpaman, sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni MMDA chairman Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. na kung mapagdedesisyunan ng Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte at Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) na buksan nang muli ang mga sinehan ay nakahandang sumunod at tumulong sa paggawa ng mga patakaran ang MMC para dito.
“The Metro Manila mayors are united that now is not the right time to reopen the cinemas. However, we will support and respect the final decision of President Duterte on the matter,” saad ni Abalos.
Kasunod naman ng ulat na tinitingnan ng MMDA ang pagkakaroon ng 20 hanggang 30 percent na seating capacity, nilinaw naman ni Abalos na ang mga alkalde ng iba’t ibang lungsod sa Metro Manila at hindi ang MMDA ang magtatakda ng seating capacity ng mga sinehan sa kani-kanilang nasasakupan.
“They have full discretion as to the guidelines. The 20 to 30-percent seating capacity mentioned in the article was just the suggestion of the economic team and not in any way the proposal of MMDA,” paliwanag ni Abalos.
Nauna nang inanunsyo ng IATF-EID ang posibleng pagbubukas ng iba’t ibang establisyimento at aktibidad tulad ng mga sinehan, arcades, at mga conference kasabay ng unti-unting pagluwag ng guidelines at restrictions dahil sa pandemya upang tulungang makabangon ang ekonomiya ng bansa.
