VACCINE CZAR: MALAWAKANG PAGBABAKUNA SA PUBLIKO MAAARING MAGSIMULA NA SA MAYO

Ayon kay Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez, Jr., posibleng magsimula na sa darating na Mayo ang malawakang pagbabakuna sa publiko kontra Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). 

“Nakikita natin sa 2nd quarter po natin makukuha ‘yon once na dumating na po ‘yong ibang ano po ng COVAX (facility),” pahayag ng opisyal.

Ani Galvez, sa puntong iyon ay inaasahang makatatanggap ang bansa ng nasa 5.2 hanggang 9.5 milyong doses ng Pfizer at AstraZeneca vaccines mula sa nasabing pasilidad. Sa 2nd quarter ng taon ding inaasahan ang pagdating ng paunang suplay ng COVID-19 vaccines mula sa Sinovac at Novavax, gayundin ng 2.6 milyong doses ng bakuna na binili ng pribadong sektor mula sa kumpanyang AstraZeneca. 

Nitong Lunes, Marso 1, pormal nang sinimulan ang pamamahagi ng COVID-19 vaccine sa bansa. Ilang health workers at piling opisyal ng gobyerno ang mga unang nakatanggap ng Sinovac vaccine sa anim na pampublikong ospital sa Metro Manila na kinabibilangan ng Philippine General Hospital, Lung Center of the Philippines, Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center and Sanitarium (Tala), Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Philippine National Police General Hospital, at Victoriano Luna Medical Center. 

Ayon pa sa vaccine czar, mayroong kakulangan sa pandaigdigang suplay ng bakuna laban sa virus. Gayunpaman, ginagawa na aniya ng pamahalaan ang mga hakbang upang mapaaga ang paghahatid ng suplay ng mga bakuna sa bansa. Nakikipagnegosasyon na rin aniya ang pamahalaan hinggil sa posibilidad ng pagbabayad ng mas mahal para mas mapabilis ang pagdating ng mga nabiling doses ng bakuna. 

Layon ng bansa na mabakunahan laban sa COVID-19 ang 50 hanggang 70 milyong Pilipino sa katapusan ng taon.
