WestMinCom Chief, Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., dropped round and checked on the situation of the soldiers under the Joint Task Force Sulu during his unit visit at Headquarters, 11th Infantry Division, Bus-Bus, Sulu on August 26, 2020.
The dynamic commander also took the time to visit and confer medals on the soldiers who are currently admitted at Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital. They sustained injuries during the twin blasts in Barangay Walled City, Jolo on August 24.
Conferred with the Wounded Personnel Medal were Sergeant Jose Alonzo, Corporal Philip Anthony Aleta, Corporal Aldrin Paj-dio, Private First Class Novin Guzman, Private First Class Jayson Paguirigan, Private Stephen Rey Oliveros, Private Alphasier Tapsi, and Private Alviner Hamsaji.
Maj, Gen. Vinluan, Jr. also attended the multi-sector meeting held at Sumadja Hall, Sulu Area Coordinating Center in Jolo.
Present during the meeting that was presided by Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan were: Brig. Gen. William Gonzales, 11ID Commander; Jolo Mayor Kerkhar Tan; Police Brig. Gen. Manuel Abu, Regional Director, PRO BAR; Police Brig. Gen. Eden Ugale, Deputy Regional Director for Admin, PRO BAR; Police Col. Michael Bawayan, Jr., Provincial Director, Sulu PPO; other military officers; representatives from other security agencies; and the local government officials of Sulu.
Gov. Tan praised the military by saying, “You are not the soldiers that I saw in the 70s. You are better than them.”
Meanwhile, in his message, Maj. Gen. Vinluan said, “In spite of the recent unfortunate incidents, it is assured that the military remains steadfast in ensuring the safety and security of our Tausug brothers and sisters here in Sulu.”
“To achieve peace, we need to harmonize all our efforts and establish an atmosphere of unity and understanding among us,” the commander added.
During his visit to Sulu, Maj. Gen. Vinluan was accompanied by Col. Jessie Montoya, the Assistant Chief of Unified Command Staff for Operations; Col. Antonio Rafael Abundabar, the Assistant Chief of Unified Command Staff for Plans and the concurrent Officer-in-Charge of the Command Public Information Office; Ltc William Victorino Upano, the Assistant Chief of Command Staff for Logistics, U4 and other command staff.
