Layunin ng pamahalaan na makapagbakuna ng 29 milyong kabataan gamit ang mga COVID-19 vaccine mula sa mga brand na CoronaVac, Pfizer-BioNTech, at Moderna. Ayon kay National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., kasama rito ang mga nasa edad 3 hanggang 17 taong gulang. 

Kinumpirma din ni Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire ngayong araw, Hunyo 8, na inaprubahan na ng Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ang emergency use authorization (EUA) ng Pfizer-BioNTech para sa mga nasa edad 12 hanggang 15 anyos. 

“Ito po talaga pagpe-prepare natin para ‘pag opening po ng mga classes at nakikita po natin na sizeable amount ‘yung ating pediatric population na humigit-kumulang na 29 million,” paliwanag ni Galvez sa  Cabinet meeting kasama si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kagabi, Hunyo 7.

Ayon kay Galvez, kasalukuyang nagsasagawa ng clinical trials ang Moderna para sa mga nasa edad 12 hanggang 17 anyos habang ang China ay nagbigay na ng EUA sa Sinovac para sa mga edad 3 to 17 taong gulang. Ang mga bakunang gawa ng Pfizer naman ay ibinibigay na sa mga edad 12 hanggang 15 sa ibang bansa tulad ng United Kingdom.
