Nakatanggap ang pamahalaan ng karagdagang loan mula sa Japan na nagkakahalaga ng 20 bilyong Japanese yen o Php8.71 bilyon na gagamitin upang mapabilis ang pagtugon ng Pilipinas sa kasalukuyang pandemyang dulot ng COVID-19.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng embahada ng Japan dito sa Maynila na ang nasabing loan ay na-disburse ngayong araw, Hunyo 8, sa pamamagitan ng Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), sa ilalim ng Post-Disaster Standby Loan Phase 2 (PDSL 2). 

“This third and latest disbursement under the PDSL 2 is intended to further augment the government of the Philippines’ Covid-19 war chest, especially now that the Philippines continues to show signs of recovery following the lifting of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in the NCR Plus reimposed on March 29,” saad nito. 

Noong Mayo 19 ay inaprubahan na rin ni Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga ang isa pang tranche ng PDSL 2 sa isang summit teleconference kasama si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte. 

Ang PDSL 2 ay pinirmahan noong Setyembre ng nakaraang taon at nagsisilbing contingency fund para sa Maynila na nagkakahalaga ng hanggang 50 bilyong yen upang matulungan itong makabangon mula sa epekto ng mga sakuna.
