Hinirang ng 37-member states na kasapi sa World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for the Western Pacific si Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III bilang bago nitong chairperson.
“The circumstances in which we meet this year are very different from last year when we came together to endorse the For the Future vision. Thank you for your continued commitment in implementing that vision in the time of COVID-19, as we work together to adjust to a ‘new normal’ and create a new future”, saad ni Duque sa virtual session nitong Martes.
Ilan sa mga isyung pag-uusapan ng kumite ay ang COVID-19, vaccine-preventable diseases at immunization, aging and health, safe and affordable surgical interventions, at ang program budget para sa taong 2022-2023.
Pinuri naman ni WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific Dr. Takeshi Kasai ang pagkahirang ni Sec. Duque bilang bagong pinuno ng kumite.
“Congratulations to our Chair, Honorable Secretary Duque from the Philippines. Secretary, thank you very much for taking on this important role in this difficult time. We all know there are many other demands on your time”, pagbibigay pugay ni Dr. Kasai.
