SINOVAC VACCINES PARA SA KABATAAN, PAG-AARALAN – DOH

Matapos aprubahan ng China ang paggamit ng Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine na Sinovac sa kabataan, sinabi ng Department of Health (DOH) na handa ang kanilang Kagawaran na sundan anila ang naturang hakbang.

Ayon kay Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, maaari aniyang ipatupad ng bansa ang parehong hakbang kung mapatutunayan na ang Sinovac, na kilala rin sa tawag na CoronaVac, ay ligtas at epektibo sa mga indibidwal edad tatlo hanggang 17 taong gulang.

“Kapag nabuo na nila ang kanilang ebidensya, nakumpleto nila ang trial at nagsumite sila rito sa Pilipinas ng revision ng kanilang EUA (emergency use authorization), pag-aaralan ‘yan ng ating mga eksperto. Kung mapatunayan natin na ito ay magiging ligtas, and it’s going to protect our children, of course the Philippines will be open to this,” pahayag ni Undersecretary Vergeire.

Sinabi naman ni Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez, Jr. na nasa 60 milyong doses ng bakuna ang kinakailangan upang mabakunahan ang mga kabataan o iyong mga kasama sa tinatawag na pediatric age group.

“Ang implication niyan, we need to buy more vaccines, more or less 60 million. Ang ginawa po natin, ngayon ongoing po ang ating mga negotiations sa ating pharmaceutical companies at vaccine companies para at least maka-increase tayo from original 158 million to 202 million [doses] kasama na po ang COVAX,” paglalahad ni Galvez.

Nakatanggap na ang bansa ng kabuuang 9.3 milyong doses ng  COVID-19 vaccines. Kasama na sa naturang bilang ang 6.5 milyong doses mula sa Sinovac.

Samantala, kinumpirma ng DOH na aprubado na ng Food and Drug Administration  ang paggamit ng Pfizer vaccine para sa mga kabataan edad 12 hanggang 15 taong gulang.
