STATE OF CALAMITY MAKATUTULONG SA MGA HOG RAISERS NA MAKABANGON — DA

Sinabi ni Department of Agriculture (DA) William Dar ngayong araw, Mayo 12, na ang deklarasyon ng state of calamity sa bansa ay makatutulong sa mga lokal na pamahalaan at industriya ng pagbababoy na makabangon mula sa epekto ng African Swine Fever (ASF). 

Pinirmahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Proclamation No. 1143 noong Mayo 10 na naglalagay sa bansa sa ilalim ng state of calamity dahil sa naging epekto ng ASF.

“The proclamation is a much-needed shot-in-the-arm. It will allow local government units (LGUs) to set aside part of their Local Risk Reduction and Management Fund or commonly known as calamity fund for quick response fund (QRF), and to allocate for the prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, rehabilitation, and recovery that may be brought by the ASF incidence in their respective areas,” saad ni Dar sa isang pahayag. 

Binibigyang-daan ng proklamasyon ang DA na makipagtulungan sa mga LGU at grupo ng magbababoy at pribadong sektor upang magsagawa at magpatupad ng kani-kanilang mga plano upang makabangon mula sa epekto ng ASF. 

Sa ilalim ng state of calamity, maaaring gamitin ng mga LGU ang kanilang quick response fund upang makontrol ang ASF. 

Sa ilalim ng Presidential Proclamation 1143, ang bansa ay mananatili sa ilalim ng state of calamity sa loob ng isang taon. 

Noong Marso ay hiniling ni Dar ang deklarasyon sa pamamagitan ng isang resolusyon na naipasa noong Abril 20. 

Mula nang maiulat ang unang kaso ng ASF sa bansa noong Agosto 2019, kumalat ito sa 12 rehiyon at 46 probinsya ayon sa DA. 

Ito ay nagdulot ng kakulangan sa suplay ng karneng baboy at pagtaas ng presyo nito sa merkado.
